Aperture, Shutter Speed and IOS - What do they all mean?

Image
Aperture: This picture was taken using aperture setting F2.8.  This photo was taken in aperture setting F16. 1. The aperture of a camera is most closely related to human eyes because of the way the light enters it and is bent to let us see. 2. The small the aperture the bigger the area in focus. The larger the aperture the smaller the area in focus. 3. Aperture impacts the depth of field because the smaller the aperture is, the more foreground and background objects will be brought into focus. The bigger the aperture is, the more foreground will be sharp, and the background will be blurry. Shutter Speed:   This photo was taken using a high shutter speed. This photo could have been taken using a slow shutter speed. 1. LIGHT: a. Medium Shutter Speed b. Medium Shutter Speed c. Fast Shutter Speed d. Fast Shutter Speed e. Fast Shutter Speed f. Fast Shutter Speed DARK: a. Medium Shutter Speed b. Medium Shutter Speed c. Fa...

Student Critique

https://ameliesphotojournalismblog.blogspot.com/2017/09/academic-shoot.html 1. One positive thing about her first photo is that the successfully used framing because of the sides of the bookshelves and the bottom of the beam holding the trophies. 2. Another positive thing is about her last photo. She successfully used balance because the two people playing chess are on opposite sides of the photo which makes it balanced. 3. One thing to improve is about her second photo. She did not avoid mergers because the subject is placed right in front of a tree, but the picture is in focus and the subject is obvious.

Academic Shoot Reflection and Critique

1. Some challenges I faced while attempting to use the rules of photography was avoiding mergers. In a classroom, there are many people, so it's hard to get one person in the picture without getting parts of other people in it. 2. I was most cautious about keeping my pictures is focus because in my last shoot, a lot of my photos came out blurry. I still had some blurry pictures but the majority of them were in focus. 3. If I could do this shoot again, I would take more pictures that focus more on one person at a time rather than a group of people because that makes it difficult to determine who the subject is. 4. If I could do this shoot again, what I would do the same is I would go to the same classrooms I went to during this shoot because there were lots of cool picture opportunities because in that classroom, they are usually playing games and having fun. 5. For my next shoot, I think the easiest rule to follow will be simplicity because all I need is a plain background ...

Academic Shoot

Image
In this picture I used the rule of thirds because the main subject, Ms. Hall, is on the left side of the picture instead of right in the middle. I think the subject of this picture is obvious because she is the closest one to the camera and the most in focus. In this picture, I used simplicity because the main subject, the boy in the blue shirt, is in front of a fairly simple background. I think it's obvious who the subject of this picture is because he is closest to the camera and the most in focus. This picture is unbalanced because there are three people on the right side and one person on the left, which makes the boy on the left side the main subject. It might not be very clear who the subject in this picture is because there are many people. I could have zoomed in more on the subject and cropped out the other people to make it more clear who the subject is.  In this picture I avoided mergers because there is roughly the same amount of space on the ...

Academic Preview Assignment

2017 Jostens Photo Contest Winners: The Best Story                                              I think this photo tells the story that two girls are doing a science lab, and the girl closest to the camera was surprised at the reaction the lab had which was that it started to smoke.                                                                                     Action and Emotion The action in this picture is the woman walking across the stage. The emotion in this picture is the smile on her face telling the viewer that she is happy to be graduating.                          ...

Photo Manipulation and Ethics

Image
A. What I have gathered from reading this blog is that it's very easy to manipulate and photoshop photos. That ability causes problems around whether a picture is real or not. Many photos for magazines or modeling agencies are altered to make the person look better, but sometimes the original pictures are leaked, like Kim Kardashian. B. Newspapers like The New York Times, The Washington Post, and USA Today have certain limits in regards to photoshopping their photos. Some restrictions might be to not alter the colors in any photos. Other magazines and newspapers, however, do not have any limits in that area, so it's very hard to tell if what you are looking at is real or not. C. I don't think that major magazines and news papers and modeling agencies etc. should manipulate their photos like they do. The readers of the magazines or newspapers tend to want to look like the people featured on the covers, and if they are heavily photoshopped, people are wanting to look like...

Great Black and White Photographers Part 2

Image
Robert Doisneau              Robert Doisneau was a great black and white French photographer. He was born April 14th 1912 and died April 1st 1994. Both of Robert's parents died when he was very young, so he lived with his Aunt until he enrolled in a Craft School when he was 13. He took classes in figurative drawing and still life, but started his photography career in 1931when he was an assistant to a photographer. About 10 years later, he was drafted into the French army for World War II.             Doisneau's photography career tok off after he returned from the war. A famous quote of his is "I don't photograph life as it is, but life as I would like it to be." Robert's style of photos was in normal settings like on the streets or in a train car rather than in a fancy ball room or a castle. His most famous photo is a picture of a couple kissing in the streets of Paris before th...

Post Shoot Reflection

1. I found it difficult to find pictures for the prompt 'metal' because I couldn't find many metal things around bowie. It was also moderately challenging to find pictures for the prompt 'happy' because happines is a feeling, not an object, and the cameras were not set up to capture action (which may be able to show happiness). But I took a picture of the memorial garden to show the happy times that were captured with the area. 2. I was mostly focused on making sure that the pictures I took were in focus. I did this by zooming in the proper amount and holding the button down halfway to focus the camera before I actually took the picture. 3. If I could do this assignment again, what I would do differently is I would defiantly take the background of the picture into consideration. After I watched the power point about the different techniques, I realized most of my picture had backgrounds that were too 'messy' and took focus away from the main subject...

Reactions to 9/11 Articles

The first story I read was about the controversial picture of the Falling Man. There are two suspects of who the man could have been, but the article said we will never truly know. I think that that just might be the absolute worst way to die and feel so bad for both of the families who may or may not have been related to the falling man. One of the suspect's family, the Hernandez family, were said to have been driven apart due to the unknown death of Norberto Hernandez. Some of his family said he would go to Hell is it was him in the picture because they wouldn't have wanted him to jump. In my opinion, I wouldn't be mad if he did jump because he had very slim chances of surviving that kind of attack. I'm sad that the death drove their family apart.         The next article focused more on the impact of the picture on the people who saw it on the newspaper the next day than on the impact on the family. People that read the newspaper were ...

Composition 9/11

Image
Avoiding Mergers This photo doesn't follow the avoiding mergers rule because there is quite a bit going on in the background of this photo, so the viewers focus is not completely on the main subject being photographed.  Balance This photo shows balance because the two people on the left side of the picture are almost mirroring exactly what the two people on the right side of the picture are doing, so the picture is balanced.  Framing This picture shows framing because it's taken from the inside of a run down house or building, and the remnants of the wall are surrounding the man on the ladder in the background. Because of this, the man is the main focus and the viewer's eyes go right to the main subject.  Lines The diagonal lines of the Brooklyn Bridge make the viewer's eyes go trait to the burning twin towers. Also, because the lines of the bridge are diagonal, it creates a dynamic feel to the photo. Rule of Thirds ...

First Shoot Photos

Image
Bowie I think I accomplished framing in this picture because the tree branch near the top of the screen sort of frames the top of the picture and the garden at the bottom of the screen frames the bottom part so that the majority of the focus goes to the middle of the photo which is Bowie (which is the prompt). Square I think I have achieved simplicity with this photo because there is not much going on in the background of the picture which makes the focus go directly to the main subject which is the square on the ground. Happy I think I have achieved the rule of thirds with this photo because the sign is in the upper right hand corner of the photo, and in the rest of the photo is the actual memorial garden in the background. Metal I think I have achieved lines with this photo because the grill of the car creates movement in the photo.
