Great Black and White Photographers Part 2
Robert Doisneau
Robert Doisneau was a great black and white French photographer. He was born April 14th 1912 and died April 1st 1994. Both of Robert's parents died when he was very young, so he lived with his Aunt until he enrolled in a Craft School when he was 13. He took classes in figurative drawing and still life, but started his photography career in 1931when he was an assistant to a photographer. About 10 years later, he was drafted into the French army for World War II.
Doisneau's photography career tok off after he returned from the war. A famous quote of his is "I don't photograph life as it is, but life as I would like it to be." Robert's style of photos was in normal settings like on the streets or in a train car rather than in a fancy ball room or a castle. His most famous photo is a picture of a couple kissing in the streets of Paris before the husband goes off to the war. Doisneau got married in 1936 and within ten years, they had two daughters together. Before he died, Robert published over 40 books about photography. He also won over 10 awards for his work.
