Top 100 Photos

Photo #1 I chose to include this image because it is very powerful. The fact that it is in black and white caught my eye, but also the story that the photo is telling is interesting. The photographer of this photo, James Nachtwey, is American and went to Somalia where there is a famine taking place. This photo and many others that Nachtwey took on this trip opened people's eyes to what is happening to people across the globe. Because of these photos, more than one and a half million people were saved from the famine. I learned that in this picture, the subject, the woman, is waiting to be taken to a feeding center in a wheelbarrow. These pictures are important for people to see so that we're not oblivious to what's happening to people around the world. If people know there is a problem, they could contribute and help those in need. This photo is also by James Nachtwey. This photo shows the "Deeds of War". 1. The changes made to the model's face and body were that they made her... -eyes bigger -mouth bigger -neck longer -shoulders narrower -face slimmer -hair bigger 2. The changes made to the model's face and body were that they made her... -skin lighter -legs longer -eyes bigger -lips bigger -neck longer -shoulder smaller -nose smaller -stomach thinner -butt smaller -skin smoother 3. I don't think it's ethically acceptable to make these types of changes to a person's face because the companies are showing a person's face that doesn't even exist. People are going to want to look like the models that they see, but they don't even know if that face exists at all. So I think photos are much better off not being altered, or being altered only to correct the colors...

Self Portraits and Portraits Intro

Image
Tips: 1. Get close to the subject and focus in on just one body part. 2. Fill the frame by getting close to the subject. 3. Change the perspective. Environmental Portraits: I like these portraits because they both show leading lines and you can easily tell what each of the subject's passions are. I chose these pictures because they caught my eye because of the leading lines. Self Portraits: I like these self portraits because they are both zoomed in close to their face and they are interesting to look at because the backgrounds are very simple.  I chose these self portraits because they're giving me ideas of what I could do for my self portrait project. Casual Portraits:   I like these casual portraits because the babies are so cute and they both use rules os photography like simplicity and lines in the top picture. I chose these casual portraits because they get close to the subject's faces and are casual pictures, not formal....
