My Favorite Cover:
I like this cover because the colors are eye-catching and bright. You can clearly tell what the picture is about by the cover photo because of the big words saying "Germs" and also the picture tells a story. The picture follows the rules of simplicity because there isn't a lot going on in the background. Also, there is balance since the baby is on one side of the picture and the dog is on the other side. The picture shows movement from the dog's tongue which makes for an interesting picture to look at. The picture is also properly exposed since it's not too bright or too dark. Lastly, there is no noticeable digitally altering done to the photo. There is not much to this picture that I would change.
Magazine Cover II:
Image Based Covers- This is the most common type of cover. It is where the cover is a photograph that has been taken. Usually, the subjects of these photos are people, more often, celebrities. Sometimes, though, they can be pictures of objects.
Illustration Based Covers- These are less common than Image based covers because they typically don't sell as well. Illustration Based covers can be drawings or computer generated images that are put on the covers of magazines. These are usually more eye-catching than the typical photographs.
Type Based Covers- These types of covers are not as common as Image Based covers still, but are more popular than Illustrations Based Covers. Type Based Covers are where the main image is not an image at all, it's just writing. These types of covers can be very eye-catching because of the lack of a picture, but can be powerful by using different fonts or calligraphy to express what the article is about.
Concept Based Covers- These types of covers are also not as popular as others, but it can be powerful and even funny. Concept Based covers are pictures, writing, or drawings (and sometimes all three) that go together to express an entire concept. These can be humorous which can be hard to do, or it can be serious which can be slightly easier to accomplish.
The relationship between the words and pictures on a cover are that they need to go together. This is important because if the words don't portray what the picture expresses, the reader might get confused on what they're actually about to read.

My Favorite Cover:
"This cover story by Michael Pollen argues that while we have been obsessed with eradicating germs, there are health advantages to being exposed to them. The cover shot by Hannah Whitaker of a baby being licked by a dog makes graphic the prevalence of germs in our everyday lives."
