Student of the Month Story (final)
Amy Bejarano has been elected Student of the Month at Bowie High school for the month of January. The Student of the Month is an award given out to one student at Bowie every month based on how well they are doing in school.
Amy was given this award because of her hard work and her commitment to doing her school work.
"I feel very excited to have been elected the Student of the Month at Bowie High School," ninth grader Amy Bejarano said. Bejarano seemed shocked when she first found out that she was the student to win the award this month. "We chose Amy to give the award to because she is such a hard worker and she always gets her assignments done on time," principal Robinson said. The principal, along with the student body, work together to elect the student of the month every month. "I make sure to have done all of my assignments before I take up shifts at my job or before I do any extracurriculars," Bejarano said. Bejarano balances her school work with her job and her extra curricular activities. "Amy always puts her school work before dance even though you can tell that she loves to dance," Bowie High School dance teacher Ms. Strassburg said. Bejarano likes to dance when she isn't working, doing school work, or doing other extra curricular activities. “I’m in a club called Future Teachers of America and I think that it has taught me a lot even if I decide not to be a teacher,” Bejarano said. Amy is taking several clubs but the Future Teachers of America is her favorite. "Next year, I'm planning to take several elective classes like Tech Theatre Intro to Cosmetology, and Child Development, but I will still put my academic assignments before my electives," Bejarano said. Amy will continue to put her academic work before her electives in her upcoming years at Bowie High School. “For college, I think I want to go to University of Texas because it seems like they have a lot of good programs that I could be a part of,” Bejarano said. Amy thinks that her winning this award was recognition of her hard work and that it is pushing her towards the rest of her high school and even college career. “I advise students who want to win this award to continue to work hard in school and do the best that they can to be a part of their school,” Bejarano said. The next student of the month will be announced at the end of February.
