Earthquake Story
At 12 a.m. on Monday morning, an earthquake struck the San Fransisco Bay area.
Because of the Earthquake, an auto part store collapsed killing two and injuring six.
"I was eating breakfast when the room started to roll. I dove under the table just as I heard an explosion outside and a chunk of cement flew through my kitchen window. Thats when the screaming started across the street," Hayward resident Mike Beamer said. It was later found out that the explosion Mike heard was from the Auto Part Store across the street from his apartment. "Hayward Firefighters used ropes to stabilize the auto supply shop, conducting a search of the building and capped a gas line after detecting a gas leak at the site," a public information officer from the Haywood Fire Department Jennifer Vu said. This was the most probable cause for why the earthquake had caused so much damage on this building in particular. "The epicenter of the earthquake, which had a magnitude of 6.4 on the Richter scale, was under the hayward Hills," a scientist from the US Geological Survey in Menlo Park Penney Gertz said. Getz explained how the earthquake effected this area. "Three of the six people that were injured were hurt badly enough to require hospitalization and were transported to Hayward General Hospital," Vu said. Jennifer explained the state of the people most effected by the earthquake. "Names of the dead are being withheld pending notifications of families," Vu said. Jennifer explains why the names of the people killed in the earthquake are being held from the public. "No other serious injuries have been reported in Hayward," Vu said. Jennifer explained that only the people mentioned from the Auto Part store were seriously effected by the natural disaster. "People as far South as Los Angeles and as far North as Redding felt the quake," Gertz said.
